Myelodysplasia in Childhood

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Myelodysplasia is a heterogenous group of disorders that was earlier described as preleukemia, refractory anemia with excess of blasts, subacute myeloid leukemia, oligoleukemia and odoleukemia . This disorder is predominantly a ineffective marrow due to a stem cell disorder characterized by progressive cytopenia(s), associated with a hypercellular, normocelular or hypocellular marrow and associated dysmorphism of myeloid, erythroid and / or megakaryocyte cell lineages. Myelodysplasia is associated with a greater predilection to evolve into acute myeloid leukemias (AML), though not in all patients. MDS is considered to be rare in childhood but the implications of such diagnosis in a child has more implications than in the adult.

Prosthetic valve endocarditis caused by multidrug-resistant Candida albicans in a patient with myelodysplasia syndrome: A case report and literature review

Background and Purpose: Candida endocarditis is an infrequent disease with a high mortality rate, which commonly occurs in immunosuppressed patients with cardiac valve replacement. We reported a 70-year-old woman diagnosed with Candida prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE). This study also involved a review of all published cases of Candida PVE from 1970. Case report: Herein, we reported a 70-ye...

Multilineage dysplasia (MLD) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) correlates with MDS-related cytogenetic abnormalities and a prior history of MDS or MDS/MPN but has no independent prognostic relevance: a comparison of 408 cases

specified (AML-NOS), AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC), multilineage dysplasia (MLD). Abstract The WHO classification of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is hierarchically structured and integrates genetics, data on patients' history, and multilineage dysplasia (MLD). The

Serial assessment of suspected myelodysplastic syndromes: significance of flow cytometric findings validated by cytomorphology, cytogenetics, and molecular genetics.

The significance of flow cytometry indicating myelodysplasia without proof of myelodysplasia by cytomorphology remains to be clarified. We evaluated follow-up analyses in 142 patients analyzed in parallel by flow cytometry, cytomorphology and cytogenetics for suspected myelodysplasia without proof of myelodysplasia by cytomorphology. At initial assessment, flow cytometry indicated myelodysplasi...

Treatment-related myelodysplasia/AML in a patient with a history of breast cancer and an oligodendroglioma treated with temozolomide: case study and review of the literature.

The emergence of temozolomide as an effective alkylating agent with little acute toxicity or cumulative myelosuppression has led to protracted courses of chemotherapy for many patients with gliomas. Secondary, or treatment-related, myelodysplasia (t-MDS) and acute myelogenous leukemia (t-AML) are life-threatening complications of alkylating chemotherapy and have been reported in patients with p...

Autoimmune manifestations in human myelodysplasia: a positive correlation with interferon regulatory factor-1 (IRF-1) expression.

BACKGROUND Patients with myelodysplasia may have autoimmune manifestations (AIM). Interferon regulatory factor-1 (IRF-1) is a transcription factor involved in interferon signalling, leukaemogenesis, and the development of the immune system. OBJECTIVES To determine whether IRF-1 is implicated in the pathophysiology of AIM in myelodysplasia. METHODS 14 patients with myelodysplasia were studie...
